The ‘Janus Pannonius’ Museum organises an end-of-winter trip to the River Dráva linked to the anniversary of the Ramsar Convention in February (World Wetlands Day on 2nd February). Companied by an ornithologist with local knowledge, one can get an insight into the characteristics of the oxbow as wetland habitat.

International competition for young water enthusiasts with huge prize

Founded in 1997, the Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) is most prestigious international junior prize within the water sector. The Hungarian national round is organized by GWP Hungary Foundation with the help and support of numerous partner organizations. The patron of the Hungarian competition is Mr. János Áder, President of the Hungarian Republic.

DDVIZIG’s Annual Assessment Meeting 11/02/15

Mr Balázs Somlyódy got appointed as the Director-General of the General Directorate of Water Management on 1st October 2014 by Mr Sándor Pintér, the Minister of Interior. The newly appointed Director-General visited our Directorate on 11th February 2015 to attend the Annual Assessment Meeting – Year 2014.

Heads of departments with their deputies, the supervisors and the heads of the representative bodies all took part at the annual meeting. The event was opened by Mr László Márk, the Director of DDVIZIG, who reported on the organizational changes taken place in 2014, the main water damage prevention tasks at Lake Balaton and on the River Dráva, our experiences in public employment and other important and significant tasks of last year.

Later, Mr Somlyódy evaluated last year’s activities and then he went on to present the tasks, demands ahead. The Director-General highlighted some important aspects of the defence tasks against inland water and floods, the development of irrigation, the tasks related to maintaining the raised water-level of Lake Balaton and other development opportunities. Finally, current tasks got conciliated and debated on.
