Bicycle routes along Dráva dikes

2015. január 21., szerda 09:28

Within the framework of IPA Projects titled ’Bicycle route along Drava’ (HUHR/1101/1.2.2/1002), ’Cycling by the River’ (HUHR/1101/1.2.2/1005) and ’Drava&Danube ecotourism growth’ (HUHR/1101/1.2.2/2010) the dike crest modernization works got completed both on the dikes of River Dráva and the Danube. Thus, bicycle routes got either built or modernized between Drávasztára and Tótújfalu, as well as between Béda and the state border. Thanks to the three cross-border projects new asphalt layer got laid down  in  the length of about 20 kms  on the dike sections in Counties Baranya and Somogy.

Furthermore, two rain shelters in Tótújfalu and Szentborbás, a picnic point in Révfalu and a resting place for bikers got built together with several gate barriers to limit vehicle traffic.  The Croatian Project Partner covered a 45 km long section of Dráva on the Croatian side and in the region of Osijek with crushed stone also to promote cycling tourism.

We do hope that the natural values of Dráva will get visited by more and more people due to the developments of recent years.
