Hydrographic data
We have information about the collection of hydrographical data featuring Hungary goes back about two millennia. Most of the data from earlier periods has been lost, they only exist in a well-organized, systematic form from the first half of the last century, and only from the second half of the last century onwards, the collection of hydrographic data has been collected in an organized, centrally controlled way. The first organization, whose responsibility was collecting, measuring, evaluating hydrographical data of the country and forecasting the floods, was the Hydrographic Department established by the Ministry of Public Labour and Transport in 1886. This was the first organized, hydrographic services of Carpathian basin. The content and versatility of the Hungarian hydrographic data collection preceded many similar foreign ones.
As a result of developments in recent years, the vast majority of perceived and measured data is now processed on computer. In his way, the widest range of interested parties can access the data and information easily at any time. The Water Directorate, as Data Controller is responsible for the reliability of the data produced in their own hydrographical network.
Data collected by the hydrography, goes to a unified, hydrographical database. Within this, the Hydrographic Module handles the data from the flash reporting and automatic remote sensing stations of the hydrographical network, which is essential for the preparation of decision making for the implementation of water damage prevention activities. This module also manages the largest and most comprehensive database of quantitative hydrological time series of the water service. A two-level data processing has been implemented. The first level means the original data of the perceived-measured, recorded and monitoring measurements means. These data are recorded according to the digital data certificate of the original measurements and without any changes. From these data, on one hand, derived data series are being elaborated on the basis of algorithms and correlations, and on the other hand, hydrologist experts make primary data processing, which is the second level and these are the calculated data.
Telemetry stations are stations with a type of registers, which in addition to the local recording of operative data allow transmitting the recorded data to the telemetry centre established for this purpose. Telemetry systems use modern, perceiving, data collecting and communication tools. Data received at the systems centre can be displayed, processed and transmitted to other processing systems.
Data of surface water stations
Among water level and discharge data measured at the surface water stations, the remotely measured data are available on the website of www.vizugy.hu and the data stored in the Central Hydrographic Database on https://data.vizugy.hu/.
Near-surface water data
Thanks to improvements in recent years, the number of groundwater wells equipped with telemeters is increasing every year. These data can also be viewed and downloaded from the websites above.
Data of hydrometeorological stations
As a result of a previous joint investment with HungaroMet Zrt., 141 hydro-meteorological stations were automated and remotely measured. These stations are now operated by HunaroMet Zrt. as their data are primarily used in the forecasts they produce.
