DANUBE DAY on Generali Children’s Island in Budapest 21/06/2025

The International Danube Day programme for families and children, organised this year by the Ministry of Energy with the participation of 12 water and/or Danube-related organisations, was once again a success.

The programme was held on 21 June 2025 (21st anniversary of International Danube Day), on the transformed Children's Island, on Shipyard Island/Hajógyári Island in Óbuda. This year again, children could participate in different, nature-inspired games at the tents of different institutions collecting stamps in their very own Danube Passport and take home fun prizes.

At the tent of the General Directorate of Water Management (OVF), children could test their knowledge with three different riddles, colour an aquarium and count the number of aquatic animals in it, play memory card games, solve giant jigsaw puzzles and the brave ones could build an emergency dyke. We also discussed with the children how they can save water, and talked about the three states of water. The children also learned what a sand boil “buzgár” is and what professionals do during a flood.

Children and also the adults, are always very enthusiastic, eager to play and take part in various activities. They enjoyed fish stocking, carefully releasing a small fish from their palms into the huge river Danube.

For the first time ever a Hydrographic Survey Drone demonstration took place on the river, which was a real sensation for the children and adults likewise!

Danube needs attention, admiration, care and protection. “Our Danube, our future.”
