Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Anikó Raisz, Minister of State for the Environment and the Circular Economy at the Ministry of Energy (EM), said that the development of the circular economy is a top priority in Hungary. Not only from an environmental point of view, but also because it can reduce the risks of resource scarcity and increase the industry’s resilience to price volatility. The government’s Climate and Nature Action Plan aims to make Hungary a climate-neutral country by 2050. This requires a number of good examples and measures, many of which are already being implemented.

Among the programs was the international DALIA project workshop, in which project the General Directorate of Water Management of Hungary plays a consortium leading role.

After the opening speech of the workshop by Mr Péter Kovács, Senior Technical Advisor (General Directorate of Water Management), Dr Viktor Oroszi, National Coordinator of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade), secured the contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to the future model projects.

Ms Boglárka Lakatos, coordinator of the DALIA HORIZON Lighthouse project, gave a presentation on the objectives of the open call of the project, which, among other things, aims to encourage the drought-affected areas and regions of the Danube Region to adopt nature-based solution technologies, contributing to increasing the resilience of water management. In addition, it seeks to promote the increased application of Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM), principles for sustainable water management and adaptation to climate change, fostering collaboration between researchers, water managers, decision-makers and the wider public.

In partnership with DALIA, the PET Cup Association, one of nine Danube demonstration sites, or “good practice” areas, presented its activities on the Bodrog River as the main organiser, which, in addition to the elimination of PET bottle pollution, also places great emphasis on research and education activities, which they focus on their river conservation programme.
