The General Directorate of Water Management has several partnerships with Technical University München (TUM) in EU funded projects. We recently visited their hydraulic engineering laboratory in Obernach in connection to our partnership. TUM is a very high level university and they are among the best in the world according to all rankings. With their help, we have a good opportunity to learn up-to-date technology of water management. It is also very important for us, that they have not only theoretical solutions, but practical development as well.
Our hosts, Professor Dr. Nils Rüther and Dr. Richard Huber, showed us two developments which can also be used in Hungary. The self erosion dam is a cheap solution for emergency reservoirs opening and secondly, the "fish friendly water power dam" is an environment-friendly structure for energy production. A key feature is that they don't require a high step in the river, making it suitable for use in Hungary. In the Hydraulic laboratory we saw cavitation test equipment, where the cavitation process is really visible and the effect can be measured.
We have already presented the results of our trip to the directors of our regional directorate and hopefully we can implement some of the ideas in the near future.
