Between 26th and 28th November 2024, the second partner meeting of the international project Aquatic Plastic, in partnership with OVF, took place at the Water Research Institute (VUVH) in Bratislava.
During the three-day event, participants practiced a communication problem-solving method in a so-called "Co-Creation Workshop". The aim was to address problematic issues raised by the project in a collaborative way to develop ideas and proposals.
On the second day, during the annual evaluation meeting of the AQUAPLA project, the project managers reported on the achievements of the first year of the project to the Managing Authority representative present.
The work package SO1 included a discussion on Citizen Science techniques to help achieve the project's goal of reducing plastic pollution. It highlights the importance of cleaning the rivers, which will positively impact our future by working together and involving more people of all ages.
The next step in SO2 was the development of a strategy using remote sensing methods to cost-effectively identify and eliminate high-risk leakage points and river garbage accumulations in highly polluted regions of the Danube catchment. In SO3, project partners focused on the communication objective to provide accessible and user-friendly data sets, guidelines and protocols for the management of plastic pollution in rivers. They outlined how to raise awareness about the amount of litter in rivers, prevention measures and river clean-up solutions. AQUAPLA will take communication to a higher level with their interactive 'Tag a bottle” programme and podcast discussions.
