Presentating the “FAIRway” project
In December 2014, the Ministers for Transport of the Danube countries adopted the Fairway Rehabilitation and Maintenance Master Plan in Brussels. The “FAIRway” project, supported by European Union funds, is the first step towards its realization, as well as the extension of the Master Plan on the Danube and its navigable tributaries.
Contents of the project
Provide an up-to-date, reliable and uniform information on shallows, water levels and advanced water level forecasting for the entire Danube section. These basic conditions are not only the basic elements of waterborne transport planning but also fundamentally determine the design and sustainability of the waterway and the related water sector planning processes. During the FAIRway project, the participating institutions carried out the following tasks:
- Develop standardized national progress schedules and pilot actions in order to implement the Master Plan
- Purchase of advanced, internationally agreed equipment (eg riverbed survey vessel)
- Implementation of pilot activities:
- obtaining complete master data for critical sections
- assessment and reporting of shipping conditions on a common basis
- harmonized forecast
- optimized fairway design
- Introduction and application of forward-looking, modern processes
- Preparation of the establishing documentation required for the implementation of the further parts of the Master Plan
