It was time a Hungarian-English specialist dictionary was compiled as Hungary has traditional interests and accumulated expertise in water matters. Compiling the dictionary started in 2013 within the framework of the GWP Magyarország Foundation and with the help of recognized experts in Hungarian water affairs. Now, in the summer of 2015, the basic version of the dictionary can be presented in Szombathely, at the XXXIII Roaming Meeting of the Hungarian Hydrological Society.
The dictionary currently contains more than 3,000 entries with corresponding terms in Hungarian and English, as well as (maximum of 1,024 character-long) definitions in Hungarian. The authors provided cross-references to the technical terms included in the definitions and also defined in the dictionary. It facilitates the interpretation, which is sometimes helped by a figure. In certain cases, the figure shows more complicated formulas.
The preparation of the dictionary was supported by the Office of the President of the Republic, Eötvös József College, Aquaprofit co. ltd., the National Association of Water Management Societies, VTK Innosystem ltd., the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Office, the National Directorate General of Water Management, VÍZITERV Consult ltd. The idea of the dictionary was also supported by BM-OVF Water Science Council. Some of its members formed a subcommittee to deal with the definitions.
